About David Halvorson
David Halvorson is the Managing Partner of Mid Mkt Advisors and Horizon M&A Advisors, a lower middle market M&A advisory firm based in Campbell, California. Over the course of his career, he has completed more than 500 closed transactions representing multi-billion dollars in aggregate deal value — advising founder-owned businesses through some of the most consequential financial decisions of their lives.
His advisory background is grounded in operating experience. Before founding Horizon M&A Advisors, David held corporate development roles at Intel Corporation, where he gained firsthand exposure to how institutional acquirers evaluate targets, conduct diligence, and structure transactions. He subsequently served as CFO in multiple private equity-backed portfolio companies, giving him the financial and operational perspective of both buyer and seller across the deal lifecycle. He later moved into independent M&A advisory, bringing that institutional-grade process to the lower middle market.
David earned his MBA from Santa Clara University. He is a member of the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA), the California Association of Business Brokers (CABB), and M&A Source — the professional associations that set standards and ethics for business intermediaries in the U.S.
His advisory practice focuses on founder-owned businesses in the $10M–$100M revenue range across six primary sectors: manufacturing, IT services and managed services, healthcare services, specialty contracting, business services, and distribution. He represents both sell-side clients — business owners planning an exit — and buy-side clients, including strategic acquirers and financial sponsors executing platform or add-on acquisition strategies. Based in Campbell, California, he serves clients throughout the Bay Area and nationwide.

Advisory Philosophy
David's approach to advisory is built on a single premise: the founder of a $15M business deserves the same quality of process that a Fortune 500 company gets from a bulge-bracket investment bank. Not a scaled-down version of it — the real thing.
That means a Confidential Information Memorandum drafted with institutional rigor. A financial model that anticipates every question a buyer's deal team will ask. A data room organized and indexed before the first buyer request arrives. A buyer list built from live market intelligence, not a static directory. A process structured to generate competitive tension — because tension, not relationships, is what moves buyers to the top of their range.
David works directly with clients from the first conversation through closing — no hand-offs to junior staff, no bait-and-switch after the engagement letter is signed. Founders who have spent 20 or 30 years building a business deserve a senior advisor, not a senior name on the letterhead. He brings peer-level respect to every engagement: no hustle, no pressure, and no conflict of interest between getting a deal closed and getting the right deal closed.
The result, across 500+ transactions and multi-billion dollars in deal value, is a track record built one client at a time — on the only metric that matters: outcomes.
